DaKine Quest 28L Photo Backpack TESTED + REVIEWED

DaKine Quest 28L Photo Backpack TESTED + REVIEWED

The DaKine Quest is a DSLR specific photo backpack with 28 liters of total storage capacity. I’ve been using it to hull around my camera and athletic gear while filming race reports for Get Out There. While the front compartment is made for a DSLR, I’ve found it to be close to idea for quick access storage of my GoPro, camcorder and various accessories. The main feature of this pack is the customizable photo compartment with up to 5 Velcro adjustable sections that can be easily be configured to fit your storage needs. The isolation of the photo compartment is great for those situations where you just don’t have the time to sort through your entire pack for a specific piece of gear and the quick-access front and side entry panels are easy to negotiate and have waterproof zippers. There are two additional plastic pockets on the inside of the front panel.

The main compartment is just above, while it’s not particularly large, it can fit a pair of shoes and a light jacket. There is Dakine Quest 28L photo backpacka front compartment with organization panel and even another pocket in front. Behind that, the Quest features a padded laptop compartment that can fit most laptops up to about 15 inches. On the side there’s a dedicated tripod strap. While it looks a little flimsy it has worked well for me and the non-slip plastic buckle has held-up against my aluminum tripod. Under that there is an adjustable water bottle pocket that houses the rain cover.

Around the back of the pack, there’s a good amount of upper padding, lumbar padding and some padding on the inside of the shoulder straps. A vertical adjustable sternum strap and hip strap will lock the Quest securely to your body.  The hip strap has a good sized width, it has two more pockets on the front and is removable.

While the quest does move with you quite well, it’s very square shaped and not as sporty looking as DaKine’s other packs. Watch the video.
