2015 Edmonton Winter Warrior Challenge
Winter Warrior Challenge is a 5km winter obstacle course organized by The Ranch Golf and Country Club to showcase what they have to offer year round and to raise money for the Rainbow Society of Alberta.
The Course features 10 obstacles including:
- Tired Out
- Crazy Canuck Crawl – uphill cargo climb
- The Grind – 10 alternating lounges, 10 plank jacks and 5 burpees
- Riddle me this
- Spider’s web
- Belly Bruiser
- Lug-a-log – log carry
- Powder padlock – knee high snow
- Road Block
- High Rise
- Flip-Flop Tire flip
- The Edmonton FC challenge
The terrain featured paved golf cart roads, grass, snow, some puddles, a little ice gravel, and sand. The course profile was flat and measured 5.35km according to my GPS watch.
As indicated in the event title and on their website, the Winter Warrior Challenge is not a race, it’s a challenge, kindof like Tough Mudder so there is no chip timing or awards for competitive obstacle course racers but there are awards for best group costume and top charity fundraisers.
All Winter Warriors received this finisher’s medal, a Winter Warrior Tuque and a Edmonton FC scarf.
Given the level of difficulty of the 10 obstacles at the Winter Warrior Challenge and the non-competitive nature of this event, it’s best suited for beginner and intermediate runners with a moderate to mid level of fitness.
- Winter Warrior Challenge Tuque
- Edmonton FC Scarf
- Finisher’s medal.
