2012 BMO Vancouver Marathon
The BMO Vancouver Marathon completely changed its map for 2012. The half marathon and marathon were split into completely different races with the half marathon heading downtown and making its way to the seawall then finished downtown, while the marathon headed west to UBC, then along the beaches, over the Burrard Bridge, along the seawall to the finish downtown. Both races started in Queen Elizabeth Park, with the half starting at 7am and the full at 8am, sharing the same finish. Unfortunately after the race, runners had to make their way back to the expo which was situated in the farthest exhibition hall in Canada Place to pick up the belonging they had checked at the start. That 2k walk was especially brutal for those 5,000 who had just ran a marathon.
The marathon course was scenic and featured a bit of everything: parks, tree-lined residential neighborhoods, beaches, bridge, the iconic Stanley Park Seawall and the finish downtown. While there were some hills, most notably on Camosun and in the last KM, I would not call The BMO Vancouver Marathon a slow marathon. Watch the video.
